Balanced Green Smoothie

For many years I was not a fan of fruit smoothies or protein shakes. They usually contained too much fruit, providing far more sugar in one sitting than I needed or could handle. Plus, most protein powders at the time were whey-based & caused me digestive upset. So I always felt, why bother?

Over the years, though, I have experimented with a ton of different recipes, and have found ways to incorporate both fruit and (non-dairy) protein powders into my smoothies, in a way that tastes good, FEELS good, and fills me up! You’ll also notice that I always aim to create recipes that have well-rounded macros, and are budget friendly :).

This balanced green smoothie includes spinach, avocado, vegan protein powder, a bit of collagen, some tropical fruit (and more!). It’s tasty but not too sweet, and provides a ton of protein, healthy fat, and fiber, making it great for any time of the day that you want to make it.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup Unsweetened Coconut milk (I used milk in carton; you can also use about 1/2 cup canned + 1/2 cup water)

1/4 avocado

1 Tb. Hemp Hearts

3/4 cup Frozen pineapple

1/2 medium Banana

2 cups Baby spinach, raw

1 scoop Plant Protein, Vanilla (approx. 20 g protein; I use Thrive or Orgain)

1 scoop / or approx 2 T Collagen Hydrolysate Peptides (approx. 10 g protein)

1 cup ice

INSTRUCTIONS:

Blend! :) I like to reserve at least half the hemp seeds to sprinkle on top at the end.

MACROS:

450 Calories

38g Carbs (9 fiber!), 18g Fat, 38g Protein

Remember, I include macros for you NOT because I want you obsessing over calories or macros, but because I want you to understand that building a balanced meal is SO important for energy!

Notice that we have plenty of fiber here (so you’ll feel full + good for digestion), + healthy fat and plenty of protein, which will keep you feeling satiated for hours!

So…

what do you think?

Would you give this a try for breakfast (or really, any meal!)?

Send this to a friend who might like this! The prep is SO quick, and the result is a yummy, balanced breakfast that’ll give you great energy + tons of vitamins in the morning!

Yours in Wellness,

Liz
