Makeup, Skincare, Hormones, Oh My!

You may have noticed recently that I’ve been sharing more about my skincare/makeup routine on social media, both on posts + stories.

So, let’s talk about why.

Going back 2+ years ago, I started researching personal care products. As I learned more about human nutrition/our bodies, I also learned about how our natural detox systems work. Spoiler: Yes our bodies detox naturally...BUT even if we detox well, our bodies can STILL get overloaded/ struggle to do their jobs.
They are AMAZING and EFFICIENT machines, we also have so many sources of toxicity in the modern world that it can be difficult for them to keep up.

So where does safer skincare & makeup come in? Well, most mainstream products on the shelves these days contain ingredients that are tough on our bodies. For me, the main effect that was troubling to me was that many of these ingredients can be estrogenic, and interfere w/ our bodies’ natural hormone balance. NOT IDEAL for skin, mood, energy, etc

So, I slowly started making the switch. And there are quite a few brands out there that are starting to offer cleaner, safer solutions! (Note: D/l the EWG or ThinkDirty app, and you can scan your products, see ingredients, safety ratings, &resources to learn more about each ingredient.)
In my experience, I found Beautycounter was consistently offering makeup products that were high performing (as well as safe), and skincare products that made my skin feel great in the dry NorCal air. They also are on a social mission to pave the way for other safer beauty brands, and to change legislation to keep us all safer from harmful ingredients. I think that’s pretty cool.

I’m very much a minimalist when it comes to makeup and skincare;

but it’s so nice to know that the ingredients I’m putting on my face aren’t hindering all my other healthy lifestyle efforts!

So, you will see me share about these products sometimes, b/c its an integral part of my healthy lifestyle, and I enjoy my rituals surrounding them! You’re always free to tap on by if its not your jam; but if you ever have any questions, feel free to DM me ❤️.

Yours in Wellness,

Liz
