Great Skin, Inside + Out
I’ve never thought that I had particularly great skin. As a teen I hated the teeny bit of rosacea I had on my cheeks, and how easily my face would turn red with exercise! That, combined with the dark circles I’ve had under my eyes basically since childhood, always made me feel incredibly self-conscious. (Teen girls — we really know how to focus on the negative :p ) That said, I’ve come to appreciate my skin more over the years. I am not really prone to breakouts, and for the most part I’ve usually felt pretty comfortable wearing little to no makeup.
Mostly I chalked my skin up to genes & good luck; and in some aspects, that’s true. But if I learned anything after my freshman year of college — when I spent about 6 months to a year dealing with more acne + scarring than I’d ever had in my early teen years — there’s more to it than that! (Ie. you can only eat crappy, processed cafeteria food, filled with sugar + processed seed oils, for so long before it starts affecting you :p ). Studying Nutritional Therapy has only reinforced this lesson for me.
Great skin comes when 2 major factors are in place: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. a great diet. GUT health IS skin health (and brain health, and so much more! ) Keep in mind, the perfect diet for YOU might not be the perfect diet for someone else. We call this bio-individuality <3⠀⠀
2. great products that are SAFE, effective, and work WITH your skin, not against it ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you want to really work on the root of your skin's health, start INSIDE. Focus on getting a variety of micro-nutrients, plenty of protein, healthy fats, and fiber. This is not something that will change your skin OVERNIGHT, but give it a few months and you’d be shocked at the difference these changes can make!
[Still struggling with how your gut, or skin, is responding? Please utilize my link for setting up a chat, and give me a shout! As a holistic nutritionist, I can help you figure out a diet (style of eating, NOT restriction) that will help you heal & feel your best!]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Beyond the internal, let's talk EXTERNAL. I don't see skincare as a remedy, but rather as gentle support that allows our bodies do what they already KNOW how to do. For me, I aim to focus on skincare & makeup options that contain targeted active ingredients that support the skin's lipid layer, keep it hydrated, and allow it to do most of the healing and glowing all on its own! I also choose brands that pursue ethical biz practices, aim for the whole industry to be better, and contain safer ingredients that won't cause hormone (endocrine) disruption.
This is why I support Beautycounter, which:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-- has a NEVER list of 1800 chemicals & fragrances⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-- is Leaping Bunny Certified⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-- does extensive research re. how they source many controversial ingredients, such as mica (which is known for being procured by child labor), vanilla, and more⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-- has taken part in lobbying for (and passing!) numerous bills for better & clearer guidelines in the beauty industry⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
P.S. their pricing is comparable, or even lower, than many brands you would find in a department store or Sephora :p ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
